Happy Birthday 8th Birthday Craig! Even today I r Happy Birthday 8th Birthday Craig!

Even today I remember the events leading up to and Craig's birth so clearly, it was, of the four the most serene and relaxed births, maybe of any birth I know of, the contractions were strong and intense but it stayed spaced out by 7mins almost right up until the end which meant that as one ended and before the next one started I had a chance to relax, focus and regain control so I could even smile and text my mom lol! This boy from even as he entered the world made us smile, he was the happiest baby, while he was very attached to me and his dad, he would smile, hug and even kiss everyone.

Did you know that he's also named after my late brother? My parents had a baby about 2years before I was born and sadly he was born very premature and only lived for two days. From about the time I was 15 years old I had said that if I ever had a son I would name him Craig, when we had Caleb he just didn't feel like a "Craig", when we found out that our second baby was a boy, it just clicked and we knew immediately his name would be Craig.

We've been through a lot with this little guy as most of you already know, beating cancer 3years ago and doing it almost entirely with a smile on his face.

Started grade 1 with a bang, he didn't ease in like everyone else, he dove right in the depend happily. We are so incredibly proud of you Craig!

Our smiley Craig! Happy 8th Birthday my boy!

Look how happy Joel is to be at the same school as Look how happy Joel is to be at the same school as his brothers!

This just melts my heart ❤️
Joel's first day of Grade R

Both Joel and Craig have basically grown up in the halls, quads and fields of the school they and we all have come to love and also my husband's Alma Mater, he is an "Old Boy" as they call it, "Brothers in an endless chain" is something that they live by. Adding our three boys to the #WBJSFamily is an honour and Joel's face says it all right here!

How cool is it too that the boys have all shared a teacher over the years too (although Craig, having repeated Grade R did have another teacher too) but Mrs T has gone through this journey with our boys and us now three times over and we are so grateful to her for it!

The first week has gone by exceptionally well for Joel, he never cried on his first day and even only a few days in is right at home, which he should be, since he's been in and out of there and known his teacher his whole life!

Guess who started Grade 1!? Our sunshine happy bo Guess who started Grade 1!?

Our sunshine happy boy, our second born and my late brother's name sake, Craig.

He has been through so much already in his little life - and he'll be celebrating his 8th birthday in just a few days (22 Feb)! Yay!

Did you know that he repeated Grade R last year? Yup, because he had a cancerous tumor in his right kidney (Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Kidney) rupture at the end of 2017 (he was only 4 years old) and then having to go through a 7 month Chemotherapy Radiation Therapy treatment plan. Successful as the treatment was it did also rob him of time at school and the emotional effect of it took it's toll too. It meant that he simply was not ready to move on to Grade 1 last year so instead repeated. It was the best thing for him, it gave him so much confidence, he was given a leadership role and helped other newer kids in class and was very helpful to his teacher too.

He started Grade 1 with a bang and ran with it like a champ! The school this week gave the Grade 1's a late start and a chance to ease in and get settled in their new, big and often scary new school (the grade R's are completely separate in their safe little bubble). BUT Craig, oh no, he did one day of late start and then simply went more than an hour early along with his big brother Caleb, he walked in the gates alongside his brother and was in his element! I am so unbelievably proud of him! And why shouldn't he do that well, he basically grew up on those grounds and in in those halls, he tagged along for every school run, for every rugby game or swimming gala and almost every outing too. The school, those halls are his second home.

My 1st born is in his final year of Junior School! My 1st born is in his final year of Junior School! Grade 7!

As we approach the end of the first week of a new school year, it's got me feeling grateful and reflecting on the years gone by.

I almost can't believe that the tiny baby boy who made me a mom, who first crawled to me, and walked for the first time into my open arms, my only baby for five years, now and a big brother to two little brothers and a little sister. He looks just like his dad and is becoming a young man in his own right. Caleb, my almost teenager, already at the beginning of the end of a chapter.

I hope and pray that this year is all and more than you could hope for my boy.

HOW WAS YOUR CHILD'S FIRST WEEK BACK?

Sunday late reflections: Today (07.02.21) was a ra Sunday late reflections:
Today (07.02.21) was a rather special one, every year around my grandpa's birthday my dad's side of the family try to get together, only this year it nearly didn't happen, and it was a year of firsts...
It was the first time that my grandpa Desmond wasn't there, he passed away in May 2020 during the 1st lockdown due to Prostate cancer (so not covid19 related), we still however tried to continue the tradition and decided last min just this week to go ahead and a few of us to get together and honour the tradition and the man we all love and miss so dearly.

Thanks to the pandemic it was also a few other firsts, it was the first time that some of us met our cousin @mama_coco_hl 's baby daughter.

Tomorrow (08.02.21) marks our grandpa's first birthday that he isn't here to celebrate with us, and Christmas past was our first without him and the first time that we all didn't see one another either.

Amongst a global pandemic, and a time when many of us have come to realise what's really important in our lives, family is at the top of mine!

Pic 1: Meeting my cousin's daughter, Imrah.
Pic 2: Three cousins and our daughters.
Pic 3: The great-grandchildren
Pic 4: The three younger grandchildren (they're our cousins but are the babies, in our generation anyway) and the six great-grandchildren with our Grandma Elsa.
Pic 5: The man we're celebrating, our late grandpa Desmond.

P.S. Everyone who attended our picnic in the forest today did so with caution, in fact we actually changed our venue this morning upon arrival to a place we felt was too full, we ended up at the Glen Forest and basically had the place to ourselves today with only some scattered people far away.

Throwback to Spring Day (1 September) 2015, the da Throwback to Spring Day (1 September) 2015, the day our third son Joel was born, his birth captured by @photographytoremembersa and something I so wish we could've done with all four of our children - but I didn't know about there even was a thing like birth photography back when I had Caleb and Craig.

However, Joel's birth in particular was so quick that if we didn't have Amy there we wouldn't have gotten a single picture in all the craziness.

Check how Joel looks up at Jonathan kissing me, a moment so special and close to my heart, thank you @photographytoremembersa I can never ever truly repay Amy, this was the first time she photographed our family and she has continued to capture so many special moments for us over the last 5 years, from family photoshoots, gender reveals, maternity glam sessions, births and more.

Expect more spam as we walk down PTR memory lane @photographytoremembersa
